Dabbling With The Paranormal

Okay, I KNOW that it is not Halloween, but it doesn't mean that this stuff is not interesting. Last Halloween, I was online searching for Haunted places ( because I LOVE that sort of thing ), and I came across this website..... http://www.theshadowlands.net/places/

If you are from the states, you can click on your state and see if there are any " haunted happenings " in your hometown and/or where you live, but they also list other countries as well. Mine were as follows.......

This is where I grew up.......

Bedford - Groton - Dudley Rd. - This Road has had very frightening acts since early 1800's. And is known to send you home feeling frightened. This is where nuns where hung after practicing witchcraft in the mid 1800's. Nuns have been seen at night. When seen in the fog they look like Demons in the night.

This is actually famous fokelore of Bedford ! As teenagers, we used to frequent this road quite often, and even did the Ouija Board under one of the tree's that one of the nuns was " supposedly " hung from. My boyfriend, when he was in the tree removal business actually CUT DOWN some trees along the side of the road and I kidded him that he would be forever haunted by nuns...heh. I also recently took my daughter for a ride down this road after telling her all the stories one foggy night near Halloween. We got halfway down, and I screamed....causing HER to scream and then afterwards denouncing me a " horrible mom ".

This is where I live NOW.....

Tewksbury - East Street Cemetery - In the cemetery at night, there is a ghost of a woman who walks around the part of cemetery closest to the center of town. In addition, deep in the cemetery, there is a creature (probably never human) with dark leathery skin who will follow you as you walk through the cemetery. East Street runs through the cemetery. As you drive though, there will often be white apparitions through the cemetery.

Tewksbury - North Street - As you turn onto North Street from East Street late at night, you can see a white apparition on the corner. As you drive further down, you will notice a little boy walking down the road. As you approach the train tracks there is a blue energy on the right side of the road.

Last October, on Halloween, we ( myself, my boyfriend, my best friend and her boyfriend ) were reading about this stuff above, all of which happens to be right down the road from where we all live. We decided, it being Halloween and everything, to check it out ! This is what we found.....

The white apparitions throughout the cemetery are actually the fronts of the marble graves shining as you drive through and catch them with your headlights. As for the creature, we called for him to show his leathery self, but he must have been at Pinata's having a burrito and a Corona. The " blue energy " is NO WHERE to be found, despite numerous passes on North Street, and no little boy except for my boyfriend complaining " this is GAY....I wanna go home "

BUT.....something interesting caught my eye. If you cross the road from the main cemetery, there is a little one with maybe about 50 graves. If you go to the VERY end of it, facing town....there is ONE grave that is facing the OTHER way from all of the other grave stones. It just so happens to be the grave of a woman. Could this be the woman that they are talking about in the first sentence ? Could she be angry that her grave is facing the other way ? Hmmmmmm..........

Playing Beauty Editor - Part 2

I have three new products that need reviewing:

1: Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer: $28 ( but I bought it at the cosmetic store at Wrentham Outlets for $19.50 ) A little heavy. It is the consistancy of sunscreen, which is actually added in this product - SPF 15. My skin seems to get a little oily with it during the day. I thought it would be a prefect thing to get since I have the Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation. I figured for going out ( like I ALWAYS do - not ), I could mix it with that. I haven't actually tried that yet, but I'm not quite sure if I like the moisturizer alone let alone mixed with something. Maybe my skin just needs to adjust to it.

2: Too Faced Lip Injection: Marketed as one the many many " lip plumpers " that they have out on the market, this lip gloss is VERY heavy and gooey. Makes lips tingle for about 5-10 minutes, and delivers a LITTLE BIT of the 20% plump/pout that they claim. Forget about wearing it on a windy day, because you will be pulling sticky hair strands off your lips every 5 seconds. While I'm not exactly sold on the " lip plumping " part, I DO like the color that I chose, " Techno Buff " - the perfect nude ! I also like the staying power ( probably has to do with the " goo " factor), and the high shine.

3: Too Faced Eyeshadow in Dirt Bag: The perfect brown that I am constantly on the lookout for. This eyeshadow is an earthy brown color with some gold sparkles added to it to give it some " kick ". I love it ! They have some really cool stuff in this makeup line !

Some Things That Irritate Me

In no particular order....and not a complete list ( that would take a whole blog....)

loud Nextel phones while in a store ( who the hell wants to hear the person on the other end of the phone screaming into the air around you ? )

Flava Flav ( he looks like a piece of shit wearing a big watch )

people who drive under the speed limit ( GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY ! )

DJ's that talk over a song as it is starting ( shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up ! )

being interrupted ( like I WASN'T talking ? )

waiting in line for something ( especially when the person behind you thinks that he/she will get further in line if they stand one centimeter BEHIND you )

waiting in line for something when the person in front of you has multiple items ( this speaks for itself )

people who wear their foundation too dark, causing a " mask " effect ( do you REALLY think that this looks ok ? REALLY ? )

people who tan too much, ending up to look like Ooompah Loompah's ( are you AWARE that orange skin is NOT flattering ? )

people who wait WAY too long at stop signs ( JUST GOOOOOOO ! )

Chuck Norris ( why is he always on EVERY channel when I can't find something to watch ? )

people who forward EVERY joke they get in their email to EVERYONE on their contact list
( do you REALLY think that I want to get a stupid email from you EVERY fucking day ? Delete, delete, delete.......)

spam emails

waiting for a page to load online ( COME ONNNNNNNNN !!!! )

when my computer freezes ( and right when you are in the middle of something.....)

people who don't say " excuse me " when they bump into you ( "the OPERATIVE words would be EXCUSE ME !!!! *glare glare glare* )

telemarketers ( " would you like me to call YOU in the middle of YOUR dinner ? " )

the sound of the door opening to my lobby at work ( I clench my teeth everytime someone opens it....)

people who wear low rise pants when they CLEARLY should NOT ( do we REALLY wanna see your stomach folding over your pants ? NO )

overzealous sports fans ( is the outcome of this game really THAT important ? )

stupid questions ( goes without saying )

perfume sprayers in department stores ( If I WANTED to try it, I would have ASKED )

knock off bags ( TACKY !!!!! )

really BAD knock off bags ( EXTRA TACKY !!!!!)

Scott from American Idol ( I just wanna punch him in the big jaw of his )

sketchy public bathrooms ( yup, I really wanna sit down on a pube ridden toilet seat....even WITH a seat cover....)

people who leave their dogs in their cars ( how could you do that to your pet ? )

Corvettes ( notably over the hill ugly guys driving them, thinking that they are somehow COOL )

people driving sports cars that rev their engine at a red light ( REALLY ? Who brought the cool guy ? )

someone that cuts you off just to get one car in front of you ( WOW....THAT really got you far huh ? )

80's haircuts/big 80's hair ( oh my GOD.....did you LOOK in the mirror before leaving the house ? )

people who don't blend their blush properly ( yup, your right....two perfect circles on your face looks REALLLLLLY good - right on ! )

Jesus Joggers ( those shoes that NO ONE should wear....)

turtlenecks or anything touching my neck other than a necklace

GOLD chains, and the excessive use of them on ONE neck ( YUCK.....I mean...YUCK ! It just conjures up images of tacky lounge wear and hairy chests with the shirts open way down )

people who STILL wear banana clips ( HELLO ? )

Okay...this is the SHORT list of things that I thought of randomly off the top of my head. There are MANY more things that irritate the shit out of me....but it's Friday, and I can't delve into the bitchy part of myself...I'm in a good mood.....

Mother/Daughter forced movie day

The deal was that I would pick a movie, and SHE would pick a movie and we would BOTH have to watch each other's picks all the way through....

Her pick : " Raise Your Voice " starring Hillary Duff ( god please help me....)

Mom's pick: " Pretty In Pink " starring Molly Ringwald ( who DOESN'T like a John Hughes flick ?)

Of course her's was on first. It was the kind of movie where you can pretty much guess what happens in the next scene. " watch...her brother is gonna die..." " watch....the CD he sends in gets her that scholarship for the exclusive music school..." ( you know the type.....)
I must have MAD PMS, because I CRIED during a whole bunch of scenes, with my daughter laughing at me. I have to admit, it WAS a cute movie.....

Time for MY movie, your normal run of the mill 80's teenage angst flick. We sat through maybe TWO scenes when she announces " Ughh ! I have seen this before Ma ! Next they're going to be driving in her car, looking at houses wishing they could live in them "......and she says this in an exasperated, roll eye kind of way, heading over to the computer where she flips on her AIM buddy list.

How DARE she ! Didn't she PROMISE to sit through my MOVIE ? I was SO offended! I REMINDED her of the deal we made, and she rolled eyes again spouting the most popular word of the teenage world today " what-everrrrr"

I chose not to protest further, and started cleaning the apartment with Molly Ringwald and her brooding teenage pout in the backround......WHATEVER !

Trying to Analyze Simon LeBon

While driving into work this morning ( you will notice that MOST of my posts will come after this time....) I heard a Duran Duran song, and it of course brought back memories of how I absolutely IDOLIZED them when I was a teenager.
Now that I am all grown up ( THAT'S questionable ), I still sing their songs when I hear them on the radio or when I am listening to their CD's. All of the lyrics of their old stuff is known by HEART, and I mean pretty much ALL of them. When I sang them back THEN, I was just spouting out words to songs of a band that I was obsessed with, but when I sing them NOW.....I wonder what kind of fucking drugs Simon LeBon was ON when he wrote them. Let's look at some examples.........

1. From Planet Earth :
Only came outside to watch the night fall with the rain
I heard you making patterns rhyme
Like some new romantic looking for the tv sound
You'll see I'm right some other time.......

Okay....I can understand " night fall with the rain ", but who the fuck makes patterns rhyme ?

2. From " Is There Something I Should Know " :
There's a dream that strings the road
With broken glass for us to hold
And I cut so far before I had to stay

Okay....does this phrase mean that Simon was a " cutter "? Maybe a fucked up childhood perhaps ?

3. From " New Moon On Monday " :
Shake up the picture the lizard mixture

Okay - what the fuck is a LIZARD MIXTURE ?? Was it something that he may have consumed to HAVE those little acid trips ?

4. From " Hungry Like The Wolf " :
In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd
and I'm hungry like the wolf

Okay - " smell like I sound ? " Well, that's up for debate. He SOUNDS like he is a very clean hygienically correct guy....but I'm not so sure about the smell factor after being in those tight leather pants that he always used to wear....

More rants later, it's Friday...and I am SURE to have something ELSE to complain about or make fun of........

Questionable Mothering Ablilities

If anyone has seen the opening scene in the movie office space, that was me driving on the highway into work this morning. For those who have NOT seen this movie, you need to go and rent it...it is a RIOT...but I digress.....

The opening scene in the movie shows this whiter than white guy blasting rap tunes in his car, singing EVERY word and making gangsta hand movements. Yes....that was me this morning ( I know - grow up right ? ). I was listening to A Snoop Dogg song, Nuttin But a G Thang, blasting it and spouting out EVERY lyric by heart. It brought me to think about a similar scene ( in MY movie ) that happened this past weekend while on that adventure with my daughter. If my life were a movie ( I once heard someone say " live your life as if you were being followed by a camera" ) this would be a good first scene........

Scene 1 : ( annnnnnnnnnnd ROLL ! ) Mom and Daughter are in car fighting for the control of the stereo. Daughter wants to listen to an Alicia Keyes song that they just heard three times that day. Mom puts her foot down, saying that she is NOT listening to this stupid song again. Mom changes station, and finds an old school Dr. Dre song playing. (The song is called Dre Day on normal CD covers, but the REAL title to this song is called Fuck Wit Dre Day.)
Mom turns up volume to FULL capacity, and starts reciting lyrics ( in a white girl version of imitating a black rapper style ), knowing EVERY word by heart. Only when it gets to a part in the song where Mom KNOWS there are some explicit swears, she messes up, and this is ONLY because the radio version tries to dub over them with some retarded voice over. Mom gets PISSED, saying " What the fuck ! I hate listening to the RADIO edit - I always fuck up the LYRICS !"

Daughter nods, shrugs shoulders and sings the backround female vocalist part in the song, tuning out her crazy Mother's regression moment.

Playing Beauty Editor and other Random Stuff

There are two cosmetic products under $20, which is GOOD these days.... that I must rave about.....

1. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer. A lightweight tinted moisturizer that has SPF20 ! It boasts that it helps reduce the signs of aging with a vitamin enriched retinol treatment. Although, I have not seen the visible results...because it has only been a few days since I have been using it, I am happy with the coverage that it provides while letting my skin shine through. I have been trying to stay away from foundations, for the obvious reasons...they settle into LINES !!!!

2. Almay Whipped Gloss. Always on the search for the perfect lipgloss....this one is GREAT ! It comes in a tube, but unlike most of glosses that come like that, this one comes with a little brush, great for perfecting your pout ! The other thing that I like is that it comes with a little hint peppermint flavor, which also makes your lips tingle ! Color that I went with : Sheer Rasberry

On a different note......can someone please tell me why I have The Psychedelic Furs song " The Ghost In You " running through my mind ?

Inside you
the times moves
and she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
and she don't fade

Maybe I am going back to my childhood, remembering the fact that I mastered the keyboard part on my CASIO ????

Website of Interest

While prowling around on the net, I came across this website called LiquidGeneration. It has everything from quizzes to cartoons to totally random stuff. I must have a sick sense on humor because I found this site to be SOOOOOOO amusing. Pay special attention to the " features " section. I laughed till tears came out at the "Ashlee Simpson Lip Syncs", an interactive cartoon where you can make Ashlee lip sync to different songs. My other favorite was Hollywood American Idol, a cartoon where " celebrities " audition for American Idol. There is a game section where you can play totally messed up games like " American Idol Punch Out" and " Who Sung It ", a game where Liquid Generation's " singer " sings a song in a realllllly f-ed up way and you have to guess by multiple choice who REALLY sang it. Not too fun if you know lyrics, but entertaining just the same. You gotta check it out....here is an example of one of the quizzes......

Okay...REALLY.....these things SUCK, because not only did I answer that I would NEVER film myself having sex, but I also anwered any " whore " question conservatively"....bunch-o-crap - lol !

Walking Down Memory Lane.....

Today I was blessed with the company of my 14 year old daughter, which does NOT happen very often since she believes that every waking second should be spent with her boyfriend ( ah, to be almost 15 again....)

It was such a beautiful springtime day, that I decided that it would be nice to take her to some of my former stomping grounds that I used to frequent when I was around her age.
First stop : The Garment District, an alternative/vintage " department store " located in Kendall Square, Cambridge. The Garment District, also known as " Rags " back in the day, is famous for their first floor of " dollar a pound " merchandise. It is basically a whole bunch of clothes scattered on the floor, with people picking through them....yah, we skipped that area but checked out the unique shoe section . The shoe section has new AND formally worn shoes. It is mostly famous for their vast collection of go-go boots ( I actually own a pair from there....Shut up ! It was for a Halloween costume ! )

Up on the second floor, there is an explosion of clothes. They have racks and racks of new, retro, vintage, and used clothing. They also have a costume section ( which , by the way is ALWAYS my first stop when I am looking for a Halloween costume..). There is also a section for up and coming local designers trying to sell their latest creation. At the very back of the store is a 60/70's retro room with everything from dresses to overcoats, most of it polyester and flowery/paisley/psychedelic type garb.

We came away with nothing except some socks ( she is obsessed with socks ), but we DID go back into the 60's room and try on some REALLY kooky hats. I tried to convince her that it would be fun to buy the UGLIEST hat and glasses and wear them in the car, but she didn't go for it ( big surprise...)

Next Stop: Harvard Square, Cambridge. I explained to her that this was THE place to go back in the day. We used to feel so COOL just hanging out there with all the different, and sometimes outright strange people. I showed her where we all used to gather, the wall that is the back of the subway entrance. You can still see the graffiti of days gone by......

We stopped at The Garage, an offbeat mini-mall converted from a garage. This hosts a variety of unique little shops, one of it's most popular being Newbury Comics...which has been there FOREVER !

I also took her to one of my personal favorites, Oonas. Oonas advertises itself as " an experienced clothing " store. It has some normal, run of the mill used clothing, but is greater known for it's VINTAGE stuff. If you want to be like Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink, and convert an old prom dress into your own creation....Oona's is the place to go !

Here are some of the pictures of our little adventure.......

Ok, so this is the weirdest thing we saw today. This guy was dancing to Mexican music collecting money. The sign around his neck says " horse permit ", but I did not get close enough to see what the rest of it said....... Posted by Hello

Ye ole center of the hussle and bussle of Harvard Sqaure, Out of Town News. Check out the guy looking into the camera, apparently thinking I am photographing HIM...yeah OK buddy.... Posted by Hello

Hey.....who said punk is dead ? This is some guy in Harvard Square who graciously allowed me to photograph him. I did NOT, however ask him how he got his hair to stay like that. Some one once told me sugar and eggwhites..... Posted by Hello

Here is The Sign for The Garment District...... Posted by Hello

Makeup and Girly Stuff

Hi Everyone ! Like my sister Stacey ( and my cousin Christine's quest for the perfect foundation...) I have this never ending quest for the perfect mascara. Well, I think that I have found the solution ! LASH PRIMERS ! These products are used BEFORE you put your mascara on. They coat and elongate the lashes. Use them with your favorite mascara. Let me tell yah...they totally WORK ! See a variety of them here ( my personal favorite store Sephora...)
